Ferrari Amalfi Spider Drops Its Top

Ferrari has pulled the wraps off the Amalfi Spider, the convertible version of the car that replaced the Roma in the Italian marque's lineup. According to Hagerty, the arrival of this open-top variant was widely expected and rounds out Ferrari's new entry-level offering.

Unlike some convertibles that simply lop the roof off an existing coupe, the Amalfi Spider was developed alongside its fixed-roof sibling from the start. The two models share identical styling up to the A-pillar, and Ferrari's designers have cleverly ensured the Spider maintains the coupe's profile even with the fabric roof in place. The rear end stays faithful to the hardtop as well, with the coupe's distinctive lower rear glass section replicated in black fibre on the Spider.

The folding fabric roof comes in four colours and two specialised technical fabrics that create what Ferrari describes as a "three-dimensional shimmering effect" in different lighting conditions. Five layers of insulation keep cabin noise and temperature under control, while the whole assembly can be raised or lowered in just 13.5 seconds at speeds up to 60 km/h.

When stowed, the roof takes up minimal space — just 22 centimetres — leaving 173 litres of boot space for topless motoring, or 255 litres with the roof up. That's proper usable luggage capacity for a convertible.

Ferrari has also fitted a wind deflector into the rear seat backrest that deploys at the touch of a button, keeping wind buffeting to a minimum on open-air drives.

The Amalfi Spider represents Ferrari's latest effort to attract buyers into the brand, offering the classic Italian roadster experience with modern refinement and practicality. It's the complete package for those who reckon life's better without a fixed roof.
