Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 March 2026
Motrs Australia is operated from Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and your rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
We keep this straightforward. If something doesn't make sense, get in touch.
What we collect
We only collect what we need to run the site and its community features.
- Account info, email address, display name, and profile photo (if you sign in via Google)
- Community content, Talk posts, guide comments, garage entries, stories, and event submissions you create
- Technical data, IP address, browser type, pages visited, collected automatically via server logs and analytics
- Email preferences, whether you've opted in to our newsletter
How and why we use it
- Authentication, to create and manage your account (via Google OAuth or magic email link)
- Community features, to display your posts, comments, garage entries, and attribute content to you
- Site analytics, to understand how people use the site and improve it (aggregated, not individually targeted)
- Email, to send magic login links and, if you opt in, a newsletter. Nothing else.
- Moderation, to enforce our community guidelines and keep the site safe
Third parties
We use a small number of services to run Motrs Australia. Each has its own privacy policy.
- Supabase, database and authentication (hosted in Australia/Singapore)
- Vercel, site hosting and speed analytics
- Google, OAuth sign-in and Google Fonts
- Resend, transactional email (magic links, newsletter)
We don't sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone for marketing purposes. Ever.
Cookies and tracking
We currently use minimal cookies, just what's needed for authentication and your theme preference. We may introduce additional analytics or advertising cookies in the future. See our cookie policy for the current list and any updates.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access your personal information we hold
- Correct information that's inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Complain if you believe we've mishandled your information
To exercise any of these rights, contact us. We'll respond within 30 days.
Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we'll remove your personal information within 30 days. Community content you've posted (Talk posts, comments) may be retained in anonymised form.
Children
Motrs Australia is not intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, let us know and we'll remove it.
Newsletter and the Spam Act
Our newsletter is strictly opt-in, in compliance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. We never add you to the mailing list without your explicit consent.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date. For significant changes, we may also post a notice on the site.
Contact and complaints
If you have a question or complaint about how we handle your data, contact us first. We'll do our best to resolve it.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
