Barn Find: Volvo P1800 Unearthed in Rural Victoria

The Discovery

It's the kind of story that keeps classic car enthusiasts awake at night. A 1967 Volvo P1800, finished in the iconic white that made the model famous on television, has been found sitting quietly in a corrugated iron shed on a property near Ballarat, Victoria.

The car hasn't turned a wheel since 1993, when its original owner parked it "just for a bit" while he sorted a minor electrical gremlin. Three decades later, the P1800 was discovered by the family during a property clean-up.

What Makes This Special

The P1800 is one of the most recognisable shapes in automotive history — thanks largely to Roger Moore driving one as Simon Templar in The Saint. Finding one in this condition, with matching numbers and original interior, is genuinely rare in Australia.

The odometer reads just 78,000 miles, and the original B18 engine appears to be untouched. The body shows surface rust in the usual spots — lower sills and around the rear window — but the structural integrity looks surprisingly solid.

What Happens Next

The new owner, who purchased the car with the property, is weighing up options. A full restoration would easily run into the $40,000–60,000 range, but a well-sorted P1800 can fetch north of $120,000 at auction these days.

"I'm not in any rush," they told us. "It waited 30 years. It can wait a bit longer while I do it properly."
