Freshly Rebuilt 1978 Porsche 911SC Coupe Hits the Market
This non-sunroof 911SC spent most of its life in California before receiving a comprehensive engine rebuild in North Carolina. Now up for sale with documented history and a clean title.
Classic Air-Cooled Porsche with Recent Mechanical Work
A 1978 Porsche 911SC coupe is currently being offered for sale through Bring a Trailer, featuring a freshly rebuilt 3.0-litre flat-six engine. According to the listing, the car remained registered in California until 2019 and changed hands via the same platform in July 2023.
The current seller commissioned Trask Automotive in Kernersville, North Carolina, to rebuild the air-cooled six-cylinder, which included new head studs, gaskets, and bearings. Power runs through the original five-speed manual transaxle — the classic 911 driving experience as intended.
Repainted Non-Sunroof Coupe
This SC left the factory without a sunroof, maintaining the structural rigidity purists prefer. The black paintwork was applied in 2010 by Jack's Auto Body in Burbank, California, when the car also received a replacement windscreen and fresh weatherstripping.
The exterior features Euro-spec headlights with chrome surrounds, fog lights, twin side mirrors, and period-correct bumperettes. The seller notes some scuffs on the driver-side window trim and a chip on the rear bumper — honest wear for a 47-year-old Porsche.
Well-Equipped Classic
Riding on 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels — the definitive 911 rim — the car features four-wheel disc brakes and Bilstein rear shocks. Inside, brown leather upholstery complements the black exterior, while creature comforts include air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows.
The interior equipment extends to a Blaupunkt cassette stereo with equalizer, keeping things period-appropriate for those long drives.
The 911SC comes with an owner's manual, service records, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller's name. With values of well-maintained air-cooled 911s continuing to climb, this freshly rebuilt example represents the sweet spot of usable classic Porsche ownership.
