Common Heating and Cooling

Engine Bay Seal Deterioration

Symptoms

Hot air from the engine bay leaks into the cabin. Interior temperature becomes uncomfortable, particularly in Australian summer.

Cause

The seals between the engine bay and the cabin deteriorate with age. The 914's mid-engine layout means the engine sits directly behind the seats, and any seal failure allows heat and noise to enter the cabin.

Fix

Replace the engine bay firewall seals.

Aftermarket seal kits are available from 914Rubber.com.

Cost: $100-$300 for materials.
