944 Turbo timing belt,the most important maintenance item

The 944 Turbo has a balance shaft belt and a timing belt, and both are interference. If either belt fails, the engine is destroyed. Porsche specifies replacement every 48,000km but I do mine every 40,000km given our climate. Budget $1,500-2,000 for a proper belt service including water pump, rollers, and tensioner. This is not the place to save money. If you're buying a 944 Turbo and the seller can't prove the belts have been done, assume they need doing immediately and factor that into your offer.
