Thermostat Sticking

Symptoms

Engine takes forever to warm up, heater blows lukewarm air, or (if stuck closed) the engine overheats.

Cause

The thermostat wax pellet degrades. Volvos run a relatively cool 90°C, and a worn thermostat often sticks open.

Fix

New thermostat (PN 271500 for non-turbo, others vary).

Use OEM.

It's a 30-minute job: drain coolant, two bolts, swap, refill, bleed.
