Volvo

Swedish steel. Australian soul.

Irv Gordon drove his P1800 over 3.2 million miles, the most ever recorded.

// THE STORY

Volvo has been part of Australian motoring since the 1950s, earning a fanatical following among enthusiasts who value engineering integrity over flash. From the elegant P1800, driven over 3.2 million miles by Irv Gordon, to the bulletproof 240 that dominated touring car racing, Volvos are the cars that refuse to quit. The Australian Volvo community is tight-knit, passionate, and fiercely loyal. These are cars built to last, and the people who love them know it.

Queensland Volvo & Saab Club

QLD

Since 2014, the Queensland Volvo & Saab Club Inc. has been the only dedicated home in Queensland for enthusiasts of these two legendary Swedish marques. With around 200 members, this incorporated club brings together owners, collectors, and admirers who share a passion for Volvo and Saab vehicles. The club meets on the first Saturday of every second month, providing regular opportunities to connect with fellow enthusiasts, swap stories, and share the expertise that comes from decades of combined experience with these distinctive cars. Membership offers genuine value beyond the social side of things. For $75 a year (or $60 for pensioners and concession card holders), you'll receive the bi-monthly printed magazine Rolling Australia, tailored specifically for Volvo and Saab lovers. Members get access to a dedicated Members Area and Discussion Board where advice flows freely, plus discounts on products and services including 10% off labour costs at the club's sponsor, GLT Car Centre. The club also assists with concessional historic or conditional vehicle registration, making it easier and more affordable to keep your Swedish classic on the road. Whether you're daily driving a reliable 240, restoring a classic 900 Turbo, or simply appreciate the engineering philosophy that made these brands icons, you'll find a welcoming community here.

The Volvo Car Club of NSW

NSW

Founded in 1969 as The Volvo Sporting Car Club, this Sydney-based group has spent over 50 years bringing together Volvo enthusiasts who share a passion for both driving and community. What started as a motorsport-focused club has evolved into something much broader. After becoming incorporated in the early 1990s and changing its name to The Volvo Car Club of NSW Inc. in 1997, the club now offers a well-rounded calendar that balances the original sporting heritage with social gatherings and display events. The Volvo Sporting Car Club lives on as a sub-club for those keen on track time, while the main club welcomes members of all interests and ages. Meeting bi-monthly at Strathfield Golf Club (first Wednesday of even months at 7pm, with social dinners beforehand), the club offers members plenty of ways to get involved. You can test your skills at Supersprints, Hill-Climbs and Motorkhanas, show off your pride and joy at car displays and Show & Shine events, or simply enjoy regular social dinners and outings with fellow Volvo lovers. Juniors get special attention with driver instruction programs, and the club publishes its own bi-monthly magazine, VSCC News, to keep everyone connected. Membership is accessible at $65 per year for adults, $30 for juniors aged 12 to 18, and $85 for families. The club also provides access to historic and conditional vehicle registration, making it a practical choice for those wanting to keep their classic Volvos on the road.

Western Australian Volvo Enthusiasts

WA

Whether you're driving a classic 240 or a brand-new XC90, the Western Australian Volvo Enthusiasts (WAVE) brings together Volvo lovers from across Perth and regional WA. As one of the largest and most active Volvo groups in the state, WAVE welcomes everyone from complete beginners to seasoned enthusiasts who've been turning spanners for decades. The focus here is simple: celebrating the Swedish marque's heritage while enjoying the company of fellow Volvo fans over scenic drives, casual meetups, and good coffee. The club keeps things refreshingly low-key. There's no formal membership register or association fees to worry about. Just sign up to the newsletter, join the active Facebook group, and turn up to events when they suit you. Members regularly organise road trips and cruises to scenic spots around Perth and further afield in WA, with recent meets drawing impressive turnouts of Volvos spanning multiple generations. Between events, the Facebook community is there for swapping advice on parts, servicing tips, and the occasional vehicle for sale. What makes WAVE special is the relaxed, inclusive atmosphere where vintage enthusiasts and modern Volvo owners share the same passion for these dependable Swedish machines.
