Warm-Up Regulator Failure
Symptoms
Poor cold-start behaviour, the engine is hard to start when cold, runs roughly for several minutes, or stalls repeatedly during warm-up.
Cause
The warm-up regulator is a thermostatically controlled device that enriches the fuel mixture during cold start. The bimetallic strip that controls the enrichment weakens with age, and the fuel passages can become blocked.
Fix
Rebuild or replace the warm-up regulator.
Adjustment is possible but requires specialist knowledge of the system.
Cost: $200-500.
