Brake servo failure

Symptoms

Very hard brake pedal, poor braking performance, the car feels like it has no brakes.

Cause

The brake servo (vacuum booster) fails internally, diaphragm splits, check valve sticks, vacuum line leaks.

Fix

Rebuild or replace the servo.

Reconditioned units are available from specialists.

Check the vacuum line and check valve at the same time.
