Window Regulator Failure

Symptoms

The electric windows stop working, move slowly, or drop into the door with a bang.

Cause

The window regulator mechanism wears and breaks. The cable-driven design is prone to fraying cables and failed motors.

Fix

Replace the window regulator assembly ($80--200 AUD).

The job requires removing the door card and inner skin.

Straightforward but fiddly.

Budget 1--2 hours per side.

One or more doors fail to lock or unlock with the remote or central locking switch. The actuator may click but not move the lock mechanism.
