944 Turbo clutch replacement, what should I upgrade to?

question

The clutch on my 944 Turbo is slipping under boost in third and fourth gear. It's got about 90,000km on it so I suppose it's had a decent life. Since I need to pull the gearbox anyway, should I upgrade to a heavier-duty clutch or stick with OEM? The car is a weekend driver with occasional track use. Mainly concerned about drivability since my wife drives it sometimes too.

For a dual-purpose car that needs to be civilised, a Sachs performance clutch with an OEM-weight flywheel is the right choice. The full race setups with lightweight flywheels and puck-type clutch discs are miserable in traffic and your wife will refuse to drive it. Sachs make a reinforced clutch for the 944 Turbo that holds about 30% more torque than stock while maintaining a progressive, road-friendly pedal feel.

Agree with M3Mike. I went with an Exedy heavy-duty organic clutch on my FD for similar reasons. It holds the power reliably but the engagement is smooth enough for daily use. Avoid anything with a sprung-hub steel disc unless you only care about track performance. The chatter and grab from those setups gets old very quickly on the road.
