Cleveland V8 overheating in Australian summers, the fix is in the thermostat
tip
Many Cleveland V8 owners run no thermostat thinking it will cure overheating. This actually makes it worse because the coolant flows too fast through the radiator to shed heat effectively. The correct approach is a Robert Shaw high-flow thermostat set to 71 degrees Celsius opening temperature, combined with a three-core radiator and a quality thermo fan. The factory viscous fan robs about 15hp at high RPM and doesn't move enough air at idle. A Davies Craig electric fan kit solves both problems.
