Datsun 510 rally prep, the suspension is the key

tip

the 510 was a rally weapon in the 70s and the suspension geometry is the reason why. independent rear with semi-trailing arms gives it predictable handling that most cars of the era cant match. for rally prep the first mods are stiffer springs (50% over stock front, 30% rear), adjustable koni shocks, and a front strut brace. the factory anti-roll bar is too thin, upgrade to a 22mm unit. total cost about $1500 and the car handles brilliantly on gravel. dont touch the rear camber until youve driven it first cos the factory geometry is actually pretty good.
