HG Monaro GTS authentication, what should I verify?

question

looking at buying an HG Monaro GTS 350 and want to make sure its genuine. the seller claims matching numbers but i want to know exactly what to check. where are the body numbers stamped, what should the engine number format be, and is there a build record system like ford has? dont want to spend six figures on a cleverly converted base model.

The HG Monaro has body number stampings on the firewall (top right when facing the engine) and on the radiator support panel. The compliance plate on the driver's door jamb shows the body type and engine code. A genuine GTS 350 will have the engine code for the 350 Chev V8. Holden kept build records and the Holden Heritage department can verify authenticity for about $200. The Monaro Club of Victoria also has a registry that tracks known genuine cars. For a six-figure purchase, get the heritage report and have the car inspected by someone from the club registry.

also check the rear axle code stamping on the diff housing. the gts 350 came with specific diff ratios and the code should match the build spec. if someones swapped a base model diff in thats a flag. the stampings are small and easy to miss but theyre critical for authentication. any car at this price level deserves a professional authentication report.
