Jaguar Mark 2 3.8,the definitive sporting saloon
tip
The Mark 2 3.8 is, in my view, the finest sporting saloon car ever made. The combination of the 3.8-litre XK engine producing 220bhp with the compact, beautifully proportioned body created a car that dominated touring car racing across the world in the early 1960s. Bob Jane won the Australian Touring Car Championship in a Mark 2 in 1962 and 1963. The 3.8 is considerably more desirable than the 2.4 and 3.4 variants, and prices reflect this. A good 3.8 manual with overdrive is now a six-figure car in Australia. The thin-pillar chrome bumper cars from 1959-1966 are the most sought-after.
