Series 1 vs Series 2 E-Type,knowing the differences
tip
The Series 1 E-Type (1961-1968) is the purist's choice: covered headlights, toggle switches, and the original triple-carburettor XK engine. The Series 2 (1968-1971) has open headlights, rocker switches, raised bumpers, and twin Stromberg carburettors on most markets. The Series 1 commands a significant price premium, particularly the 3.8-litre cars. However, the Series 2 with its better brakes and improved synchromesh gearbox is actually the better car to drive regularly. For concours, every detail matters and the differences between sub-series within the Series 1 alone fill entire books.
