P1800E B20 engine block casting numbers and original specification
I'm working through a full restoration of my 1971 P1800E and need to verify the engine is correct for the year. The car came with a B20 engine, which is right for 1971 production, but I'm having trouble finding definitive documentation on the casting numbers that should appear on the block. Has anyone got a parts catalogue or workshop manual handy that shows what the original factory casting codes looked like for the B20 engines fitted to P1800Es in 1971?
The casting numbers on those early B20 blocks can be tricky to pin down. I'd contact Peter at Swedish Auto Spares in Adelaide; he's got original factory documentation from the seventies and knows the P1800E specs better than anyone in South Australia. Might cost you a bit for the lookup, but it's worth getting it right. I've got a few B20 blocks in the shed and the casting marks vary quite a bit depending on production run.
Those old Volvo casting numbers can be tricky to track down. You might have better luck contacting the Volvo Classic Car Club or reaching out to a specialist restorer who focuses on P1800s; they usually have the factory specs documented properly.
mate, casting numbers are a bloody minefield on the old blocks. your best bet is ringing around the IPD guys or hitting up a P1800 specific forum, theyre pretty keen on that resto stuff. the 240 community doesnt know those early swedes like the P crowd does.
Mate the casting numbers are a right pain to track down on the old B20s. Best bet is hitting up the Volvo Classic forum, those blokes have got the actual factory docs. IPD might have some reference material too if youre lucky.
