Power steering for FJ40,is it worth the hassle?

question

doing a lot of low-speed crawling and the unassisted steering is killing my arms. ive seen a few power steering conversions using hilux boxes and toyota landcruiser 60 series components. is it worth the effort and cost or should i just harden up? the car gets used for weekly bush tracks and occasional longer trips.

The Saginaw power steering box from a 60 series is the cleanest conversion. It bolts to the frame with minor bracket modifications and uses the factory steering column. The pump can be run off the existing engine. Total cost is about $1,500 in parts from a wrecker plus a day of fitting. For regular bush use it's absolutely worth it. The steering effort at crawling speeds is halved and your shoulders will thank you.

power steering is one of those mods that you wonder how you ever lived without once its fitted. ive put it on the monaro and the cruiser crowd ive talked to say the same thing. life is too short for arm wrestling with a steering wheel.
