PV544 rally heritage and the Sport model

The PV544 Sport was Volvo's first genuine performance model, fitted with twin SU carburettors and a higher compression ratio B18 engine producing 90hp. These cars dominated their class in the 1965 East African Safari Rally and various Australian rallies throughout the 1960s. If you find a genuine Sport model (check the engine number prefix), it's worth considerably more than a standard PV544. The Sport models also received stiffer front springs and larger brakes.
