PV544 twin SU carburettor rebuild, who in WA?
The twin SU carburettors on my PV544 Sport need a professional rebuild. They're original HS2 units and I want them done properly with correct needles and jets. I've tried cleaning them myself but the throttle shafts are worn and causing air leaks. Is there anyone in WA who specialises in SU carburettor work? Most of the places I've called only do Webers and Holleys.
Burlen Fuel Systems in the UK are the official SU manufacturer and they do mail-order rebuild kits with the correct components for each application. Specify that they're HS2 units from a Volvo B18 and they'll send the right kit with proper needles. For the throttle shaft wear, you'll want a specialist to rebush them. There's a chap in Osborne Park called Doug who does British car carbs, he's done my SUs beautifully. I can get you his number.
The throttle shaft bushes are a precision job and critical for proper mixture control. I'd second the recommendation to use someone experienced with SU carburettors specifically. The Jaguar and MG clubs in WA would also know who does good SU work, since most British cars of that era used them.
