RA28 Celica GT carburettor rebuild,who in WA does good work?
The twin Solex carburettors on my RA28 are running rich and one cylinder is clearly getting too much fuel. The car smokes on startup and the plugs are black. I need someone in Perth who can properly rebuild and balance a pair of Solex carbs. Most of the carb specialists I've found only know SUs and Webers. Has anyone had Solex work done in WA?
Try Doug at Osborne Park Carburettor Service. He does SUs primarily but he's worked on Solex carburettors for me as well. The rebuild kits for the twin Solex setup are available from Japanese Classic Parts online. The rich running is almost certainly worn needle valves. Doug can rebuild and balance them on his flow bench. He's not cheap but the work is first-rate.
Doug in Osborne Park is excellent. He rebuilt the SUs on my P1800 and the work was meticulous. He's one of the few people left in Perth who actually understands carburettors rather than just replacing parts. I believe he's worked on Solex units for some of the Japanese car club members.
