RA28 Celica GT,the 18R-G engine is a hidden gem
tip
The first-generation Celica with the twin-cam 18R-G engine is one of Toyota's best-kept secrets. The 18R-G is a proper twin-cam four-cylinder that revs freely to 7000rpm and makes excellent power for its capacity. Parts are still available through Japanese suppliers and the engine is mechanically simple. The RA28 coupe body is gorgeous in that 70s Japanese muscle car way. Values are climbing but you can still find decent examples for $20,000-30,000 in WA. They're a joy to drive on twisty roads.
