Soft pedal, spongy brakes, or pulling to one side
Symptoms
Brake pedal feels mushy, the car pulls left or right under braking, or braking effort is inconsistent.
Cause
Air in the system, worn master cylinder, or seized caliper pistons. Old brake fluid absorbs water and reduces pedal feel.
Fix
Bleed the brakes thoroughly, replace the fluid every 2 years with DOT 4.
Inspect calipers for seized pistons or leaking seals.
Rebuild or replace calipers as needed.
Check brake hoses for swelling or cracks, replace if old.
If the master cylinder is leaking internally, fit a new one.
