Generator/Alternator Charging Issues
Symptoms
Battery goes flat, dim lights, instruments dim, engine stalls.
Cause
Early HK models used generators; later models used alternators. Either way, the charging components are 55 years old. Voltage regulators fail, bushes wear, and the wiring deteriorates.
Fix
Replace with a modern internally-regulated alternator ($200-400).
Clean all earth points.
Replace corroded wiring sections.
