// THE STORY

The Mark 2 was Jaguar's compact sporting saloon, and with the 3.8-litre engine it was the fastest four-door car in the world. It won touring car races against dedicated sports cars, starred in countless films and television shows, and became a favourite getaway car in 1960s London. The combination of walnut and leather interior, genuine performance, and that unmistakable Jaguar presence made it one of the most desirable saloon cars of its era.

In Australia, the Mark 2 benefits from the dry climate that has preserved many cars better than their UK counterparts. The 3.8 is the most desirable, but the 2.4 and 3.4 are more affordable and still offer the essential Mk2 experience. The car's compact dimensions make it surprisingly easy to drive on modern roads, and the XK engine's smooth power delivery is addictive. A good Mk2 with overdrive is one of the most enjoyable ways to cover ground in a classic car.
