Rear wheel cylinders leaking

Symptoms

Fluid on inside of rear wheels. Spongy pedal. Shoes saturated with brake fluid.

Cause

Wheel cylinder seals perish. Pistons corrode and score the bores.

Fix

  1. 1 Replace wheel cylinders (~$15-30 each). Dirt cheap, no point rebuilding unless you're a masochist
  2. 2 Replace rear shoes at the same time, fluid contamination ruins them
  3. 3 Bleed the system after fitting
