Fusebox corrosion

Symptoms

Intermittent electrical faults. Circuits dead until you wiggle the fusebox.

Cause

Old ceramic or Bakelite fuseboxes corrode. Contacts oxidize.

Fix

  1. 1 Pull each fuse, clean with contact cleaner and a small wire brush
  2. 2 Upgrade to a modern blade-type fusebox if you're rewiring (~$30-50)
  3. 3 Check fuse ratings: don't uprate them to "fix" a fault, find the real problem
